Producers

The producers are responsible for waste that is covered by the statutory producer responsibility.

There are specific producer responsibilities for different types of waste: 

  • batteries
  • cars
  • tyres
  • packaging
  • waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)
  • pharmaceutical products

The producers must ensure that appropriate collection systems are in place, and are also obliged to provide information on sorting and collection. Local information to households is the responsibility of the municipalities. The producers must ensure that the waste is reused, recycled, used for energy recovery, or disposed of in some other environmentally acceptable manner.

The purpose of producer responsibility is, among other things, to obtain products that consume the least possible amount of natural resources, are easy to recycle, and do not contain environmentally harmful substances.
