Second-hand shops and charities will accept used items if they still have some useful life left. In many places, there are collection areas at recycling stations or recycling centres. Some municipalities even have exchange stations at their recycling centres, where people can freely drop off and take items!

However, individuals are not allowed to go “dumpster diving” or “container shopping”.
